As of Tuesday morning, anglers were finding 4 inches of ice on the spots they've been checking - mainly small bodies of water, bays, and wind-protected lakes. There hasn't been much fishing to report, but there should be quite a few options on those traditional, first-ice locations by this weekend...
The good news is that the lakes were ice-free during last weekend's snow event. With the exception of a few spots on some of the larger lakes, everything's again covered with a thin layer of ice early this week. Little Jim's Bait (320) 274-5297
While some ice remains on the small, wind-protected bays and lakes, there was quite a bit of open water reappearing this week. It's going to take a stretch of cold air and calm winds for walkable ice to form on the small lakes. Little Jim's Bait (320) 274-5297
While there was some ice forming on the small lakes, it has deteriorated quite a bit since last week. Any ice that remained early this week also looks soft and most big lakes were being kept open by the wind and warm weather of late. Little Jim's Bait (320) 274-5297
Most hunting groups report good success and they're seeing plenting of deer. The very small bays hav eice on them, while the main bodies of most lakes were open or had a thin layer of ice as of Tuesday morning. A few ducks still being taken. Little Jim's Bait (320) 274-5297
With a lack of anglers and skim ice taking hold on many small bays and ponds, there isn't anything to report on the local fishing scene. Most boats also have been put away and are now waiting for ice to form. Good luck to all the deer hunters! Little Jim's Bait (320) 274-5297
Look to Clearwater Lake or Granite Lake with minnows for walleyes 10 to 18 feet. Overall, fishing pressure has been minimal and many boats have been put in storage. The small ponds are skimming with ice overnight, but there are ducks being shot on those medium to large bodies of water, while geese...
Walley action has picked up a bit with minnows on Clearwater Lake, Big Swan Lake, Lake Sylvia, and Granite Lake in 10 to 20 feet. Panfish, bass and northern pike reports have been limited as most anglers are chasing walleyes. Duck and goose hunting has been good with a few more divers showing up...
Sunfish, largemouth bass and norther pike remain active on the 12 to 15 foot weelines of Clearwater Lake, Sugar Lake, Lake Sylvia, French Lake, Pleasant Lake and Maple Lake. Some big bass are being taken with topwater baits in shallow water early and late each day as well. Walleye and crappie...
Northern pike are being taken in 16 to 20 feet with crankbaits at Clearwater Lake, Lake Sylvia, Granite Lake, and Maple Lake. Largemouth bass are being caught along the weed lines with plastics on most lakes and a few walleyes are coming off Big Swan Lake, Clearwater, and Sugar Lake in 18 to 26...
