The season of giving begins

According to Forbes Magazine, charitable giving increases during the holiday season from Thanksgiving to New Years. The holidays seem to inspire people to spread kindness and help those in need.

It is amazing to see how many people give to charities, donate, participate in toy drives, and volunteer during the holiday season. To those who spread kindness and help others during this very busy time, thank you.

Even small acts of kindness like holding the door for someone at the grocery store, sharing a sincere compliment, or saying thank you can make a big difference for others. There are so many ways to spread holiday cheer.

I personally like to donate to Toys for Tots for each year if it is in my budget. I also try to go through my wardrobe and donate old clothes (typically I do this twice a year). This year, Ryan and I are looking for volunteer opportunities. It’s something we can do together, and I am excited to see what volunteer opportunities we find.

Here are some ways to spread kindness this holiday season:

•Volunteer at churches, nursing homes, homeless shelters, etc.

•Donate warm clothing.

•Adopt-a-Family

•Make and donate homemade blankets, hats, mittens, etc.

•Send out holiday cards to family, friends, neighbors, etc.

•Donate to a charity- can be done online.

•Spread kindness on social media (compliments, words of affirmation, positive content)

•Donate to local food shelves or food drives.

If you are looking for ways to give back locally, the Journal-Press will be sharing information from various organizations on how to do so. Have a great Thanksgiving, and remember to be kind! I am thankful for all of the kind, generous, and caring people out there!
