HATCH UPDATE!

The first chick of 2022 has hatched! On one of the rainiest days we’ve had in a long time, we got a peek at the new chick on Tuesday, March 22 at around noon.  Weather at the nest has been cold and wet so the parents are diligent at keeping the new chick and the remaining egg warm. This means we probably won’t get a good look at the chick until things dry out a bit. Precipitation is expected to stop soon (Wednesday) and remain cloudy, but hopefully the nest will dry out enough for the world to witness the first feeding. The new chick can go several days without a first meal, as it has been absorbing nutrients from the eggshell for some time.  We might not get a good look until the second egg has hatched, which should happen any time!

The clutch is complete

On February 16, a second egg arrived at the EagleCam! Four days earlier, the first egg arrived and the official incubation count-down is now on. The female is done laying eggs for the year. If all goes well, after 34 to 36 days, the eggs should hatch during the third week of March. Read all about the egg-citement and nest happenings in the latest newsletter.

NOTE TO CAM WATCHERS - clicking noise:  The microphone at the nest is faulty. A replacement arrived too late to install this season. The eagles cannot hear the clicking noise, but it can be bothersome to hear when watching. We suggest muting your sound until next season.

Arrival of second egg

Our eagle laid a second egg this week. Egg number two arrived at about two p.m. on Wednesday, February 16, about 68 hours after the first egg was laid. Typically, bald eagles will space egg laying from two-to four days and will lay up to three eggs. Egg arrivals tend to occur in the afternoon. Will there be another egg this year? Tune in and watch!

First egg of 2022

At about 5:16 p.m. Saturday, the female bald eagle laid her first egg of 2022.  As the day was winding down on Saturday, the female came into the nest for a few minutes, then she left.  She returned a few minutes later and began delivering her first egg of our tenth season on the Nongame EagleCam!  We expect at least one more egg this season, possibly two.  more likely Last year, each of the three eggs was the two eggs were laid a few days apart, and we would expect the same this year.  Keep watching this week for additions to this year’s eagle family.
