Buffalo Hills Park

Hi All- My family has chosen to be apart of our community by visiting all the local neighborhood parks (19) that Buffalo has to offer.  Our family loves to be outside and enjoy the area and community if very important to us. So we took a journey each week to spend about 30-60 mins at each park and really get a sense of what Buffalo has to offer. This is our opinion/overview of these parks.  We started our journey at Buffalo Hills located behind the Tankanka Elementary School in the neighborhood back there (see City page of detailed description).  When we first arrived...it is a beautiful scene to look at.  There is a serene pond, basketball court, two giant soccer fields and a big playground and swings. There is a sandbox, but bring your rakes...very hard to play with due to pounding from the rain.   At first glance, this is a very beautiful space.  There is a basic playground with swings, and two rockers.  The park is huge, but very little shade.  The city was great in adding a canopy next to the playground that provide shade on hot days.  A really nice open green space to play soccer or kick ball and a pond with a nice view (but no real place to just sit and look at it).  Most of that area was under water due to rain and moisture in the area we are guessing.  There was a sidewalk that brought you around it for a nice walk with the kids.  My daughter was sad that there was no real place to play with the sand 1. Because there were weeds everywhere and 2. The sand was like concrete because has never been tilled or worked in.  Also, upon closer view there was no net for the basketball hoop and the soccer nets were held on with electrical tape, but minor for the view it provides. *Disclaimer- It is a community park, meaning their isn’t public parking (unless room on the streets) and Buffalo uses an Adopt-A-Park program to keep the parks maintained (See Park and Rec Page for more information).

Overall, it was a nice space just wish it was a little better maintained.  Our parks non-verbally communicate city pride.  I value that Buffalo has a nice space in the middle of a development for kids and families to enjoy a nice day without paying anything.
