David Anderson, 83

David A. Anderson, age 83, of Buffalo, passed away on Saturday, March 18, 2023, at Abbott-Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis.

He was born on May 19, 1939, in Minneapolis, Hennepin County, MN, the son of Alfred and Anna (Schubert) Anderson.

He honorably served his Country in The Korean War.

On October 15, 1966, David A. Anderson and Joanne Marie “Joni” Smith were joined in holy marriage at St. Francis Catholic Church in Buffalo.

David was formerly employed as a warehouseman for Williams Steel & Hardware for thirty-one years.

He enjoyed bird watching, The Arboretum, gardening, reading, spending time with family and friends, going for rides and walks.

He was a faithful member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church.

Survived by loving sons, Marty (Michelle) Anderson, of Edina, and grandchildren, Maxwell and Maya; Grant (Amy) Anderson, of Beaverton, Oregon, and grandchildren, Tyler and Owen; siblings, James Anderson, of Jacksonville, Florida, and Karen “Sophie” (Mike) Carter, of Maple Lake; other relatives and friends.

Preceded in death by his wife, “Joni” Anderson, in 2011; his parents; and by a sister, Mary Ann.

A visitation will be held on Friday, April 14, 2023, one hour prior to Mass AT THE CHURCH.

A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial for David Anderson will be held on Friday, April 14, 2023, at 11:00 A.M. at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church-Buffalo, MN.

Inurnment with military rites St. Francis Cemetery-Buffalo.

Neil Docherty, 83

Neil Foster Docherty, of Buffalo, passed away on April 2, 2023, at the age of 83. He was born June 3, 1939, to Ethel and Foster Docherty in Graceville, Minnesota. He attended school in Clinton, MN. In 1957, he married June Ballhagen. They moved to Buffalo, Minnesota, where they spent nearly 65 years together. Neil was blessed with a daughter, Patsy Warner (husband, Tim) and son, Keith Docherty (wife, Georgia), both of Champlin, Minnesota.

Neil worked for Kjellbergs, Bergstrom Farm Store, Bergstrom Furniture Store, Buffalo TV and Appliance until he started his own small business in Buffalo called Doc’s TV & Appliance. Neil was a kind and thoughtful businessman helping families upgrade their appliances over the years, as well as renting VHS and VideoDisc movies for the small town of Buffalo. In later years, he worked part-time driving and delivering LP gas and auto parts.

Neil enjoyed many outdoor hobbies, such as snowmobiling, tractor pulls, gardening, using his Massey-Ferguson Pony tractor, riding his Goldwing motorcycle, fishing and driving the boat around Lake Sylvia at their cabin, and sitting in the swing with June watching the sunset.

Neil has been a faithful servant to God and attended Buffalo United Methodist Church. He served on different committees at church, including ushering and treasurer. Neil loved his family and his five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Neil had a very soft spot in his heart for animals and cared for many dogs, cats, and rabbits over the years.

Neil is preceded in death by his beloved bride, June; his loving parents, Ethel and Foster; siblings, Susan, Donna, and Warren.

He is survived by his sisters, Doris (Chub) and Diane; children, Patsy (Tim) and Keith (Georgia); his grandchildren, Andy (Dustina), Aaron, Derek, Logan, and Mara; and by his great-grandchildren, Kyra, Petra, and Tennyson.  

A celebration of Neil’s life will be held Thursday, April 13, 2023, at 1:00 p.m., with visitation one hour prior, at Buffalo United Methodist Church in Buffalo. Burial will follow at Swedish Mission Cemetery in Buffalo.

Larry Donovan, 77

Larry J. Donovan, age 77, of Buffalo, passed away on April 2, 2023. (See full notice next week). Visitation for Larry will be held Tuesday, April 18, from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. at The Peterson Chapel in Buffalo, MN. Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, April 19, at 11:00 a.m. with visitation one hour prior to the mass at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Buffalo, MN. Luncheon to follow at Huikko’s Bison Creek Event Center in Buffalo, MN. Private family interment at St. Francis Catholic Cemetery in Buffalo, MN.

Ronald Uter, 85

Ronald Edward Uter, age 85, of Waverly, passed away on Friday, March 31, 2023, at The Good Samaritan Society of Howard Lake.

He was born on September 16, 1937, in Marysville Township. He grew up on the family farm north of Waverly.

Ron graduated from Howard Lake High School in 1955. He furthered his education at The University of Minnesota School of Agriculture in St. Paul, which led him to an opportunity to be an exchange student in Sweden for one year. He returned from Sweden and joined The Army Reserves.

Ron met Kay Rachel at a dance at The Maple Lake Pavilion.  

In October of 1963, Ronald was joined in marriage to Katherine and together, they raised their three children on the farm where they resided until his passing. It was on this farm that Ron developed a fine herd of cows. Many of his cattle were registered Holsteins, and the farm was known as Merryville Farm.

Ron was a devoted husband, father and farmer. He was a lifetime member of Zion Lutheran Church, baptized and confirmed at Swedesburg Lutheran Church in Marysville Township. 

He was a member of The Lake Region Co-op Board, Wright County Extension Committee, Western Oil Transport Co-op, Marysville Township Board and Wright- Hennepin Holstein Association.

Ron was known for his love of spending time with his family on the farm, was a longtime 4-H Dairy Project Leader, and enjoyed helping the children to train and groom their 4-H dairy cattle.

While not farming, he was an avid Gopher sports fan, regularly attending home football games and was also an avid Twins fan.

Ron and Kay loved camping at Minnesota State Parks, taking the grandchildren whenever they could. Ron was a proud grandfather and great-grandfather. He was delighted anytime he was able to attend a grandchild’s sporting event or to hold a great-grandchild.

Ronald is survived by his wife of almost sixty years, Katherine, of Waverly; his daughter, Michelle (Mike) Schwartz, of New Ulm; his sons, William (Vicki) Uter and Steven (LoriLynn) Uter, all of Waverly; twelve grandchildren, Meghan (Josh) Laffen, Joseph (Ellen) Uter, Katelyn (Derek) Skovbroten, Michael (Megan) Uter, Mackenzie (Zack) Hegseth, Jack (Kathleen) Schwartz, Jessica Uter, Zachary (Jordyn) Uter, Nicholas Uter, Cassandra Dick, Meghan Zwak, and Sophia Zwak; eleven great-grandchildren; his sister, Thyra Russell, of Davis, California; brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Preceded in death by his mother, Ellen; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Bill and Eleanor Rachel; brothers-in-law, Pat Rachel and Warren Russell.

Funeral services for Ronald Uter were held on Wednesday, April 5, 2023, at 11:00 A.M. at Zion Lutheran Church in Buffalo. Pastor Kari Bahe officiated. Interment St. Mary’s Cemetery in Waverly.

A visitation was held on Tuesday, April 4, from 5-8 p.m. at The Peterson Chapel in Buffalo. Further visitation was held on Wednesday morning, April 5, one hour prior to services at the church.

Julie Welter, 54

Julie Jean Faue Welter, age 54, of Plymouth, MN, earned her wings and made her final journey into glory, surrounded by her family March 28, 2023.

Born March 5, 1969, the daughter of Ralph and Diane (Lieder) Faue. She was baptized March 30, 1969, by Pastor Larry Koehn at St Paul’s Lutheran Church in Hanover, MN. Julie was also instructed in the Lutheran Catechism and confirmed in the Christian faith March 27, 1983, by Pastor Robert Kant at Cross Lutheran Church in Rockford, MN.

She graduated from Buffalo High School in 1987 and went on to study at St. Cloud State University.

Julie enjoyed volleyball, dancing, boating, and a variety of outdoor activities; took pleasure in traveling and spending time with family. She loved her cats, collecting miniatures, and cooking, many times claiming a dish as a “Julie creation.” With her vibrant personality, she was the life of the party, and her heartfelt thoughtfulness was felt by many.

On October 5, 2002, Julie Faue and Daniel Welter were joined in marriage at Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church in Greenfield, MN, by Pastor Dennis Strong. God blessed their union with a son, Benjamin, and a daughter, Elizabeth.

Julie took pride in watching her children grow and develop their God-given talents, often lovingly boasting of their achievements.

Julie was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Fridley where she volunteered with the children’s programs. 

Survived by her loving husband, Daniel P. Welter; children, Benjamin “Ben” Welter, and Elizabeth “Libby” Welter; her mother, Diane Faue; sister, Brenda (Robert) Oberlander; mother-in-law, Carolyn Welter; brothers-in-law, Michael (Jennifer) Welter, and Mark (Sharla) Welter; nieces and nephews, Karissa and Austin Oberlander, Brittany Welter and Abbie, Jonah and Elliot Welter.

Preceded in death by her father, Ralph A. Faue; her father-in-law, Harold Welter; and by her grandparents, Vernon and Myrtice Lieder, and Harold and Anita Faue.

Funeral Services for Julie Jean Faue Welter scheduled for Wednesday, April 12, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. with visitation one hour prior at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Fridley with Pastor Jason DeShaw officiating.
