Local singer shares encouraging music

Jim Anthony, of Buffalo, has lived here since 1999. He was born and raised in Albert Lea, made the move to Buffalo, and has been here ever since. His parents, John and Georgia Komoszewski, are still living in Albert Lea, and his brother, Ed, now lives in Texas.

“Buffalo has been home,” he said. When he performs live, Anthony shared he finds it funny how many people ask where Buffalo is or assume he’s from Buffalo, New York. Anthony lives on acreage with his wife, Christen, and two children, Caleb, and Eliana. Jim and Christen have been married for 26 years.

He shared that his music is a bit of a mixed genre, but mainly country, inspired by artists such as George Straight to Buddy Guy. For Anthony, it is more about the lyrics and song writing aspect. “I’m more inspired by song writers than just performers,” he said.

Anthony released his first album in 1996 and is currently working on an album now. He has released six songs in the last two years. He focuses on telling a story and spreading encouraging messages with his lyrics. “I always wanted to be a songwriter,” Anthony shared.

He writes, records, and performs his original songs and he also has written songs for others. His latest song titled “True American Hero” has gained a lot of popularity and resonated with many people in the Buffalo community and beyond.

“I enjoy hearing how people react and connect to the songs,” he stated. Despite Anthony not having a Facebook account, his song “True American Hero” has been shared several times on the social media site, with a lot of positive feedback.

Anthony wanted to write a song that pays tribute to our nation’s military. “Their service is a sacrifice, and it’s a continued sacrifice even after they serve,” he said. Anthony has strong connections to the military. His father served in the U.S. Air Force, and he has friends and other family members who have served in the military.

He wrote the song shortly after losing friends who were battling PTSD. He shared that writing the song “True American Hero” came easy, but it was very emotional recording the song. “It took two boxes of tissues to get through recording,” Anthony said. The song sheds light on PTSD and trauma that military men and women deal with after returning home.

“I write about things I can relate to or that I have experienced, I write a lot about hard working people,” he shared about his music. During the pandemic, Anthony went on a drive with his wife and was inspired to write the song “Let’s go for a Drive.” “I’m completely content just being around the people I love,” Anthony said. He is inspired by anything going on around him and keeps Midwestern values in mind when writing his songs as well.

Anthony has performed his music live around the country and locally at Sturges Park and at Buffalo High School Performance Center. Right now, he is focusing on recording his album, and plans to start performing again once his album is complete.

“I hope I have represented Buffalo well,” he stated. Anthony is happy that the community has always been so supportive of him and his music. “I hope people of Buffalo and the surround area are proud, and can say ‘he’s one of us’,” he continued.
