Tomato damage

Roma tomatoes with scars.

The rain much of Minnesota received in the past week was very needed, but also led to some problems. The most common being reported is cracks in tomato fruit. These rips in the tomato fruit’s skin are typically found on the stem end and can appear as horizontal tears or as vertical cracks. These fruits are still safe to eat, just cut around the damaged areas and enjoy. For more about tomato fruit issues, read our tomato disorders page.
